Notes to editors:
Spectrum believes that the market for chargeable ATMs is growing rapidly in the UK and Europe. Recent data from LINK, the highly regarded ATM network operator, suggests that the market for chargeable ATMs is growing rapidly in the UK. The LINK data stated that at the end of 2004 around 40% of all ATMs in the UK were remotely located and operated on the surcharging model rather than the traditional free-to-user bank hole in the wall. In addition, APACS, the UK payment services trade association, has estimated that in the 10 years to 2012 cash withdrawn from UK ATMs will grow by 30% to circa 3 billion withdrawals per annum. It also projected that by 2012 the proportion of cash in circulation obtained from ATMs will increase from 51% to 74%.
