Digital Photo Printing Kiosks - Trial Ended

The company decided in mid-2004 to commence trials on a new product, the Digital Photo Centre, a stand-alone kiosk which allows consumers to instantly print high quality digital photographs using coins or credit card for payment. Consumers could insert the memory stick from their digital camera into the machine and, using a screen-based interface, select images for instant printing. Spectrum trialled approximately 30 digital photo kiosks in the UK.

Customers could also burn digital photos onto a CD. Spectrum sourced these machines from two leading Japanese manufacturers.

Spectrum located the digital photo kiosks in a number of UK locations ranging from Center Parcs to hotels such as Jarvis and in the head office of large employers such as Carphone Warehouse and BBC White City. Spectrum charged customers between 30p and 50p per print depending on the number of copies, and up to £2 for burning photos onto a CD.

Whilst the photo services provided were excellent, the kiosks and their hardware did not suit unmanned remote installations, and therefore Spectrum decided that this kiosk development did not fit with it's current strategy. Spectrum ended the Digital Photo Printing trial in Spring 2006.
